ABC’s of Cancer

IMG_2057IMG_2056Leave it to kids and teenagers to say what’s on their minds.

The ABCs of Cancer, created by St. Jude patients and permanently displayed in a prominent hospital hallway, offer 26 views of living with cancer and the lessons learned from that journey.

The posters are redone every so often and on occasion a child or teen may ask to
design a new “A” or “L” or “R” or whatever letter speaks to his or her spirit at that time.
The ABCs of Cancer are all at once a sad and lovely and hopeful and joyful glimpse into the amazing minds of the young heroes who come to St. Jude.

Here are a few first lines from the ABCs of Cancer:

B is for ball: Life is like a bouncing ball, it’s up, it’s down, it’s all around…
F is for fever: Fevers I don’t like them. They make me feel bad…
L is for lucky: I’m lucky for many things. I’m lucky I survived my brain tumor…
V is for “vomet”: I sit and wait but it’s just too late/up it comes with no warning…
